Here be Dragons

Hello everyone, I have another Halloween card to share with you today. As usual, I have been mixing and matching stamp sets to create a night time scene. I love to look back through my older stamp sets to see what I already have that will work alongside the newer stamp sets, and I hope that this project might inspire you to do the same.

I stamped the owl from the Hocus Pocus stamp set and the dragon from the Here be Dragons stamp set onto a piece of smooth watercolour paper, and then covered them with a mask. I coloured the background with Distress Inks: Forest Moss, Crushed Olive, Dried Marigold, Squeezed Lemonade, Shaded Lilac, Seeded Preserves, and spritzed it with water. I added some foliage from the Spring Foliage stamp set, using first and second generation stamping. I added some stencilling with a spider's web mask, using the same colour inks as I had used on the original background.

I removed the masks and coloured the images with  Polychromos pencils. Finally, I added some bats randomly over the night sky. All of the black stamping was done with Versafine Onyx Black Ink.

Thanks for stopping by, xx

  2. I too love the way the older stamp sets work with new issues in the CB catalogue. The dragon is a wonderful companion to the batty owl. The foliage of first & second generation stamping adds a lovely atmospheric complement to your stencilled spiderweb background & I particularly like your subtle approach of applying ink both before & after using the stencil.

  4. Oh those dragons are wonderful. I enjoy the Halloween cards, but wouldn't know what to do with them myself - it's not celebrated here. Ofcourse, in a few years I can't ignore it anymore, with a daughter whose birthday is in October. (12th).Love the spiderweb background.
The previous cards is very elegant! I like the "graduation hat" diamond, it wasn't very obvious when I first looked at it, it was only at a second look that I thought: this isn't a diamond with a tassel, it's one of those US graduation hats!
The background on the "out of the smoke" card is simply stunning, and the colouring is great too. I think I read your tutorial about that technique a while ago, and planned to try it. (like 100s of other things, so haven't tried yet I'm afraid.)
Thanks for sharing your inspirational crafts with us.
    Hugs,
    Debbie.
